A different/attempted postive view on this current mess
I've seen a lot of people losing their minds over the current bad run of form and I’ll try and put a optimistic view on it all.

Firstly even in the very worst case scenario west ham lose the next 3 games, there is 31 games left to turn it around and 14 wins are needed to stay up, less than half the games available.

Secondly on his appointment MP and DS both said this is a 3 year project so we need to manage expectations better whilst MP tries to change the football mentality from David Moyes and Bilic's defensive and counterattacking football to that is offensive and on the front foot.

Thirdly the games against Bournemouth and Wolves were lost to individual errors, ogbonna for bournemouth and Sanchez for Wolves. MP dropped ogbonna from the league squad for that straight away and may do the same for sanchez.

Saturday we also saw the CB first choice partnership has been established as balbuena and Diop, one of the main issues sorted, now the other areas of the side can be focused on such as the midfield partnership.

Wolves are a very good side shown by their draw (should have won really) with Man City and also Pattricio made that game changing save from marko.

West Ham rarely do well against liverpool anyway and in my opinion a bit of better finishing would have beaten arsenal away, which is a rare thing for us.

I firmly believe MP will turn it around but the next 3 games nothing is expected, anything is a bonus if achieved.

Fingers crossed Lanzini will be back in January to drive the team forward too.

until then keep the faith COYI

I don't agree with much of what you say but it's nice to see an attempted different spin on things. We need more of this.

Re: A different/attempted postive view on this current mess
It's no good starting off a three year project with relegation.

Unless they get their shit together very soon then that's a real possibility. We look worse than ever, and i can't see any sort of gameplan from the manager. I'm very worried he still doesn't seem to know his best team, and all the changes smack to me of just randomly putting players around a formation and hoping something eventually works. All the chopping and changing does nothing for players confidence either. Play bad and you're dropped from the squad. I half expect no Snodgrass, Antonio or maybe Wilshere in the starting line up next time.

If you want to look at positives, the centre of defence looks better but that's about it. He really needs to use this international break to work out an attacking system because the pathetic mess we have to watch at the moment simply isn;t good enough. You can forgive a dodgy performance against Bournemouth, but you can't follow it up with an even more abject one against a newly promoted side at home.

Piss poor. yes there's time to turn it around now, but it's going to start running out fast.

El Scorchio - agree with your comments about dropping players from the Squad, it seems he employs some sort of penal policy. Have a bad day and you are out completely for the next match, pathetic really when he should be building a team and not bullying individuals!

El Scorchio

we are 4 games into a 38 game season, not relegated already!

that newly promoted side as you say nearly beat man city, one of the best teams in europe.

once these stupid individual errors stop we'll be just fine IMO

Re: A different/attempted postive view on this current mess
Die hard - the issue isn’t just the results - the issue is the manner of the result.

Liverpool was a heavy defeat and an abomination of a performance. Bournemouth was a defeat where we never looked like scoring from anything other than a set play. Arsenal was a defeat with 45 minutes of promising football. Wolves was a defeat where we never looked like scoring from anything other than a set play.

A lot of teams won’t pick up any points from Liverpool and Arsenal away. I bet that West Ham will be the only team this season that won’t pick up any points from Wolves and Bournemouth at home. I like the attempted positive spin, but the issue is deeper than just 4 defeats

Re: A different/attempted postive view on this current mess
Keep on clutching those straws and whilst you are at it go to the games because on Saturday that was abysmal. Pellegrini has had a full pre-season and yet still does not know his best team or system. 4 games 4 different teams, 4 different formations and 4 defeats. And you don't think these individual mistakes will continue. As lack of confidence continues more mistakes get made it's a downward spiral.

That first half was a disgrace and he should get sacked for that alone never mind all the rest of the debacle. If you can't get a team to at least do the basics and show even a modicum of effort then why do you think that will change in the near, let alone the far future. Win 14 games you're having a laugh we can't win 14 throw ins at the moment.

Frank de Boer territory i'm afraid, Palace lost their first 4 games and sacked him and got Hodgson in and they stayed up. So no I'm not clutching at straws after watching that crap on Saturday. Why he doesn't start Yarmolenko in every match is beyond me. Silly old fool

I'd much rather a ruthless manager who doesnt accept shit performances and sends a message to the rest of the squad to make sure that they're not the next player dropped themselves

Yeah and there's a strong chance we'll still eb sitting on zero points SEVEN games into the season as well.

It's not a case of just cutting out individual mistakes. We were fucking lucky it was still 0-0 at 90 minutes yesterday after their striker fell over the ball unmarked 6 yards out and Fabianski AGAIN made several good saves. It's a case that we have literally zero gameplan and attacking threat. We have looked toothless and pathetic- even against 10 man Wimbledon. If you can't score you're not going to win any games.

We are an absolute shambles going forward which is simply unforgivable with the players we now have. It looks like no-one has worked on this at all all summer. There's no movement, no cohesion, no quickness, no purpose. It's AWFUL. Unless they get a clue very quickly, we're going to be in huge trouble. The scores in the Liverpool. Bournemouth and Wolves games have actually sugar coated things a bit. We could have conceded at least 2-3 more in all three of those games and 10 in 4 with only 2 scored is already plenty bad enough.

Re: A different/attempted postive view on this current mess
They showed on MOTD against Wolves.

We had a corner and after the initial cross the ball got ballooned up into the air above the 6 yard box and our players instead of challenging for the ball started to run out of the area toward the half way line.

We are like headless chickens when put under pressure, 4 games in 0 points. I cannot see in improving its the West Ham way IRONS

Did you actually attend the game Saturday ?

Did you witness the spineless approach, style of play ?

Did you see that Wolves were BETTER than us ?

Wake up FFS

I think that's a very common mantra among relegation candidates. It's not a model for assessing our chances. If we were a better team we wouldn't make the errors - but clearly we aren't.

Re: A different/attempted postive view on this current mess
There was also a bit in the first half I remember seeing when the ball was on the left in a crossing position, and Arnie and one other player both ran out of the box towards the ball! The play then inevitably went backwards and any chance of a shot was lost.

I wonder if they've been told not to cross very often? (Just like when Allardyce told them not to take long shots)

I believe this is part of MP's triangle passing options always being avaliable, im not sure of the moment you're implying but was he under pressure?

Re: A different/attempted postive view on this current mess
There were a few crosses, but nobody in the box. I would find it very odd if the manager brought in two wingers and then told the team not to cross the ball.

Takashi Miike 11:57 Mon Sep 3
Re: A different/attempted postive view on this current mess
it was the bit shearer highlighted. the wide player had time to put a cross in but as he put it across, every advanced player anywhere near the box started running back towards our half. never seen anything like it, not even over hackney marshes

Re: A different/attempted postive view on this current mess
Diehard, you talk about just needing to win 14 games. Three times in our EPL history we have managed to win as many as 16 games in a season, Redknapp, Pardew and Bilic ( yes even in our brilliant first season under Bilic we did not better our wins in a season record ). Seeing as we have played four games already that leaves us 34 games to take enough points to avoid relegation and to guarantee that we need not just to improve or some tweaks instead we need a step change in performance. At the same time we need three other teams to perform, overall, below our level.

I think that a realist about our prospects this season sees things do not auger well. To me Pellegrini has overestimated the abilities of the players he has brought in and underestimated the difficulty of building this squad into a competitive group able to hold its own against the other 14 teams in the division. Wolves and Bournemouth will not win anything of note this season but both teams have looked a class above us at this early stage.

Put simply there is no option but to hang in there and hope that the manager and his squad work through this and start looking competitive and acting so.
